When did you know you had grown up?

This morning I listened to an interview with Andre Curry. If you've forgotten who he is, he is the young man who bound and gagged his daughter on Facebook and this mockingly wrote; "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back. ;)"

Many who saw the photo were outraged. Our State's Attorney Anita Alvarez got involved and placed felony charges against him. When all was said and done, it was a "childish" action that got blown out of proportions by an overzealous criminal justice system.

But at age 22, men go to war, can purchase alcohol and are considered physically "grown." Curry's actions were childish and stupid. And as I listened to him this morning on the radio and someone was critiquing him, his response made me glad he is being forced into parenting class. His response, "You don't know me." That to me in itself is a childish and defensive response to a situation where listening and analyzing the comment can help one to better understand how one is being viewed by others.

I have another FB friend who is approaching middle age and oftentimes it appears that person is still stuck in their teens. It is disheartening to see how much silliness that person posts. The Bible says, 1st Corinthians 13:11; "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."

So tell me when did you know you had grown up? Or what happened to make you grow up?
