eta Creative Arts Foundation, one of Chicago's oldest African American cultural institutions, recently made an amendment to their Bylaws, creating a new category of board membership. Life Trustee is the new designation for those board members who have served the organization for at least 20 years and who will now assume positions of honor. Four of eta's most outstanding and dedicated board members will become inaugural Life Trustees. They are civic leaders Lucille Burrus, Juanita Passmore and Mary Ann Davis and playwright, poet and youth worker Useni
"We are pleased to be able to recognize the important role these four individuals played as key members of the board of directors to help anchor and move eta forward," said Nancy McKeever, chairman of the board. "For many years we jokingly said the only way you could leave eta's board was through death. Now we have another exit Life Trustees, like emeritus members of an institution, still maintain the rights and privileges of the institution without fiduciary responsibility or other commitments.
The four inaugural Life Trustees will be given special recognition during eta's annual Spring Board Benefit on Sunday, April 21, 2013. The benefit will be held at eta Square, 7558 S. South Chicago Avenue. Benefit chair is Lisa Montgomery Allen, Sr. Vice President and Chief Human Resources at the American Hospital Association.
