Austin Weekly News' staff members Alicia Plomin, Display Advertising Coordinator; Dawn Ferencak, Associate Publisher of Austin Weekly News; and Ashley Lisenby, Digital Content Editor, attended the May meeting of the Illinois Diversity Council. The title was "Diversifying the I-88 Corridor: Economic Impact of Diversity in the West Suburbs" and we were thrilled to learn how Aurora and surrounding suburbs have transformed communities through community journalism and outreach.

Guest speaker Sherman Jenkins, creator of "Tell Me Somethin' Good," discussed how those areas were able to improve their economies. "Tell Me Somethin' Good" (TMSG) is a digital publication designed to cover positive news about African American life outside the City of Chicago. Mr. Jenkins is also the President at SLJ Communications, Inc.

The free lunch event was held at the University of Phoenix's Downtown Chicago Learning Center.
