Talk development with a state rep

On Wednesday, Aug. 1, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Father Augustus Tolton Peace Center, 5645 W. Corcoran, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford will host a meeting of his West Side Development Task Force. 

Grab a free backpack courtesy Triton
College 

On Saturday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to noon, at Triton College, 2000 S. Fifth Ave. in River Grove (on the mounds), the college and West 40 will host a free backpack giveaway resource fair. Get access to free backpacks filled with school supplies, visit community resources and more. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the B Building cafeteria. On Saturday, Aug. 4, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Forest Park Pool, 7501 W. Harrison St. in Forest Park, Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin will host his annual 1st District BBQ and Pool Party. The first 100 parents with children will receive school supplies courtesy of Walgreens. To attend this event, you must RSVP at (312) 603-4566 or danielle.watson@cookcountyil.gov.
