Young musicians from the West Side have recently returned from an overseas trip to Brazil, part of an exchange program sponsored by the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance. The Chicago West Community Music Center participated in the inaugural exchange trip between the West Side and the city of Santo Andre, Brazil.
Several music center staff, young musicians and local artists traveled to Brazil from March 24 through April 3. This summer, several youth artists from Brazil will travel to the United States to work with youth in the East Garfield Park community and participate in a program hosted by the music center. Those who traveled to Brazil were Charles Li and music center founders Darlene and Howard Sandifer. Students David Houston and Jamaal Crowder also made the trip.
