Community members, young and old, braved the searing heat on Sat. August 15 for a range of back-to-school events scheduled that day. The big one in Austin was Congressman Danny K. Davis’s (7th) 36th Annual Back-to-School Parade and Picnic, which featured a range of young talent. Ald. Michael Scott (24th) held his first annual back-to-school event before the popular West Side Music Festival, headlined by legendary R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe.
The busy weekend lineup is still only a prelude to more events to come. Next weekend, Sat. August 22, Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) will host his annual back-to-school parade and summer festival.
