Malcolm X College has been home to what the Chicago Art Institute has called some of the most priceless artwork in the world.
For the last 30-plus years, students from all walks of life have walked past murals depicting the Amistad Slave rebellion, Rosa Parks' Montgomery Bus Boycott protest, and other historical black events and people on the school's walls.
The murals, located in the second and third floor hallways, and on the large doors leading to and from the stairwells, were painted by students, dated as early as 1971 at the height of the Black Power Movement. Some of the work was painted by MXC teachers during that time.
A team of experts from the Art Institute of Chicago visited the school, calling the artwork among the most rare and authentic murals from the 1970s, the golden age of the "Mural Movement".
