A 27-year-old West Side man was ordered held without bond Wednesday on murder charges for allegedly stabbing his mother to death over the July 4 holiday weekend.
Shaun Gibson, of the 1800 block of North Mason Street, is accused of killing Thelma Gibson, 54, in the house they shared.
According to the prosecutors, Gibson killed his mother to revenge being mistreated as a child.
Prosecutors said Gibson stabbed his mother Sunday morning while she was in bed. Gibson’s 13-year-old niece and her mother?”Gibson’s sister?”both witnessed him repeatedly stabbing his mother, prosecutors said. They added that Gibson’s sister pulled her brother off their mother, and Gibson fled from the home.
Police arrested Gibson the next day when they responded to a domestic disturbance on the 500 block of East 87th Street.
Gibson has six prior felony convictions, prosecutors said. He will appear in court again on July 26 for a preliminary hearing.
