Daryl F. Grisham, 79, Parker House Sausage CEO
Daryl F. Grisham, another of Chicago’s giants in business, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Mr. Grisham was president and chief executive of Parker House Sausage Co. He began his career with Parker House in 1954. A native Chicagoan, he was born and raised on the West Side. Grisham had worked for the Chicago Defender both in Chicago and in Memphis, where he managed the advertising and sales force.
Always very active donating and giving of his time, he was an instrumental figure in the black community. He was one of the founding members of Rainbow PUSH when Jesse Jackson left SCLC’s Operation Breadbasket. Rev. Jackson has always credited Grisham, along with other businessmen, for being the foundation of the organization in those early years.
Daryl Freeman Grisham, 79, died of complications from diabetes in Renaissance Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria, and a sister, Wilda Mooney. Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Cage Memorial Chapel, 77th & Jeffery. Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. delivered the eulogy.
