Malcolm X College’s multimillion-dollar renovation project, begun nearly a year ago, is nearly 80 percent complete, said school officials.

The $35 million renovation project, partially funded through the state and the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation, began last spring with extensive repairs and upgrades, including classrooms, computer and science labs, lighting, several bathrooms and the school’s water and heating systems.

Existing work includes painting and repairs to first-floor bathrooms. The school is planning an official event marking the completion of all renovations by the end of summer, school officials said.
