An emerging young leader, true Austin gem
Our daughter, Jazmine Stockdale, just returned from the Junior National Young Leaders conference in Washington D.C. She attended the conference from August 5-11, along with similar academically-inclined students from across the nation. Jasmine ,who attends The Chicago Academy School, was nominated and selected to represent her school, based on her academic achievement and leadership potential.
Jazmine is an outgoing, hardworking 10-year-old who aspires to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana to become a pediatrician someday. She is an honor roll student who has maintained perfect attendance-all while playing basketball for her fifth grade team, being a member of the student council, attending piano class once a week, and attending ballet and advanced ballet classes twice per week. On weekends, when she is not so busy, Jazmine helps pick up trash on our block in an effort to maintain its character and beauty.
In today’s society, you hear so much negativity about our inner-city youth and how many students are failing or being depicted as not having the ability to compete with other students from the suburbs or affluent communities. We may be biased, but we feel Jazmine is an emerging leader and true Austin gem our community should know.
