The Austin Chamber of Commerce along with Chicago Westside NAACP held their annual shopping bazaar at LaFollette Park last Saturday with various vendors on hand offering many wonderful items, ranging from African handmade dolls, pillows, jewelry, clothing and an assortment of perfumes. There was free lunch for everyone and a turkey raffle every hour.

Hosting the event was Austin Weekly News sales representative Tony Bell. Alderman Emma Mitts (37th Ward) was on hand, shopping and greeting residents. Also on hand was Jean Jackson, executive director of Eyes on Austin. Jackson had shopping bags in both hands as she patronized the various vendors. NAACP Chairperson Vera Davis also attended to register new members while new President Carl Brinson made the rounds to welcome new members.

Camille Lilly, Austin Chamber of Commerce president, was so busy trying to outshop Michelle Collins, the chamber’s treasurer, they forgot to sing the Christmas carols they had planned. Singing, however, was not forgotten because four young women did provide entertainment.

During the holiday season, organizations like the Austin Chamber of Commerce encourage the residents of Austin to support their own businesses.
