Last Sunday was a day of celebration for Rev. Dr. Marshall Hatch, pastor of New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church (4301 W. Washington Blvd.) and Mrs. Virginia Jennys, proprietor of Peoples Funeral Home (5020 W. Chicago Ave.).

New Mount Pilgrim church was filled to capacity for the celebration as Pastor Hatch and his wife, Priscilla, enjoyed the program. Chicago’s own award-winning recording artist, Darius Brooks, was one of the special guest performers. Some of the other artists were Andrea Harris of One Lord One Faith Committed II Christ, saxophonist Darwin Jackson, Eric Thomas of Rainbow Push Choir, the Sound of Faith Choir of Shiloh M.B. Church, and the Mimes of Faith.

Over at the Peoples Banquet facility, family and friends were in abundance to celebrate their matriarch, Virginia Jennys, one of the West Side’s longtime pillars. Jennys has buried many individuals who did not have the funds to pay. Always helping others, Virginia was honored by her family and friends as they expressed their gratitude for her many years of service to the West Side. Thanks to Evelyn Glover for notifying AWN about this event.
