West Suburban Medical Center received state approval from the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board Tuesday for its $24 million new emergency room facility.
Construction of the one-story, 25,000 square foot facility should begin in early 2008, with the center located on the south end of the hospital’s west parking lot, according to a West Sub press release. It will connect to the hospital on the first and third floor pavilion.
West Sub is located at 3 Erie Court in Oak Park, along the Austin Street boarder.
The ER addition comes at the tail end of the hospital’s three-year master plan, which committed $73.5 million to capital improvements at West Sub.
The new ER will add individual patient treatment rooms large enough to accommodate a patient’s entire family, an on-site laboratory, a pediatric waiting room, and medical equipment storage, along with additional parking and an enclosed ambulance port.
West Sub will hold a groundbreaking ceremony in mid-November. Construction is expected to begin early next year, and should take about 18 months, a West Sub spokesperson confirmed.
