Columbus Park will host a community-wide vaccination clinic on Saturday in response to the recent deaths of two West Side residents from meningitis. An 18-year-old Austin man died last week, and 15-year-old female student at North Lawndale College Prep died on March 6 of the disease. Health officials believe the two victims new each other but did not infect one another. Austin and North Lawndale and the greater West Side have been hit hardest by the disease, officials say.

Saturday’s clinic takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Columbus, 500 S. Central, for youth ages 11-18, also at Douglas Park, 1401 S. Sacramento. Parents are encouraged to bring their children’s shot records.

The Austin Weekly News will have complete coverage in next week’s paper.
