Students of the Chicago West Community Music Center, located in the Garfield Park Golden Dome, 100 N. Central Park, showcased their skills last Thursday for guests, including the Austin Weekly News.

The center offers instruction in singing, dancing, playing instruments and the business side of the music industry. One of the songs performed last Thursday was John Legend’s “Ordinary People.”

The students, who meet during the week after school, are from Austin and the greater West Side. They’re currently participating in a joint jazz program between the center and the Berklee School of Music in Boston, funded by Chicago After-School Matters and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.

The center is run by founders Howard and Darlene Sandifer and music instructor Michael Ross.
