The Austin Green Team held its annual Christmas Party this year at Marcello Italian Restaurant, 645 W. North Ave.

Turnout was high and everyone had a wonderful time. The only piece missing was their devoted president, Mary Peery, who is currently experiencing some serious health issues. Secretary Irma Ferba moderated this year and spoke of the special place in all their hearts for Mrs. Peery and wished her a speedy recovery.

The menu featured many Italian specialties and special recognition was paid to all the members. Vice President George Lawson as usual was the life of the party. Each year Lakeshia Kneeland directs the guests in singing “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The group is divided into 12 parts with everyone singing their portion, which gets everyone to participate. Kneeland also directs the children’s Christmas caroling, which takes place every year at the Victory Memorial Garden at Laramie & Washington. This is the area where engraved names of community activists/leaders who have died can be found on memorial bricks.

Prizes and gifts were given to members, and members explained what type of garden they have and what their garden specialty is.

The gardeners included Bennie Meeks, Cynthia Weaver, Marlin Chenault, Donna Kanapes, Ellen Newcomer, Willie/Irma Ferba, Mattie Holmes, Cora Williams, Maxine Creightney, Juline McClinton and George Lawson.
