The number of teens reported missing in Chicago appears to be at an alarming increase. The disappearance of 14-year-old Nieja Patterson has added to those troubling statistics.
The South Side teen has been missing since Feb. 27. Born Oct. 11, 1995, she is a member of New Spiritual Life MB Church, 7566 South Shore Drive. Nieja was last seen on Friday Feb. 26 walking near the 6600 block of South Bishop, wearing a black sweater, jeans, gym shoes and coat, with her hair in a ponytail. She attends Perspectives Charter School, 8131 S. May.

Austin high school student arrested for gun possession
A 16-year-old male student attending school on the Austin High School campus was taken into custody by Chicago Police Tuesday for bringing a gun into the building.
The student’s identity has not been released because he is a minor, said Chicago Police News Affairs. The male was apprehended in the school at around noon on Tuesday. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm in a school, which is a felony. The male was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. News Affairs referred additional questions to the Chicago Public Schools press office.
