Rep. LaShawn Ford (8th) sponsored a blood drive in conjunction with St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church (5112 W. Washington Blvd.) on Sunday, March 7, 2010.
According to Ford, “Especially with the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, blood donations are very important. Minorities are normally the largest group of people who receive blood transfusions, and we are not at the level that we need to be at donating. So we receive more but we give less, and it is important that we join the effort of donating.”
LifeSource is the non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through blood, organ and tissue donation in the upper Midwest. The organization is governed by a board of directors comprised of medical professionals, transplant recipients, donor family members and community representatives.
