The Austin High School Campus celebrated not just a victorious win over Manley High School at Hanson Stadium last weekend, but also the 120th Anniversary of Austin High School. With the support of the Austin High School Alumni Association, the students realized their vision of what they wanted Homecoming to be. Adults joined in and assisted.

The week began with activities initiated by a group of campus students. By Thursday, the spirit of Austin was beginning to rejuvenate. On Friday, the auditorium was filled with students, parents, faculty, adults, parents, alumni, Americorp volunteers and mentors. A special salute was given to this year’s football team.

The Austin High School Alumni Association was acknowledged throughout the first half of the game. A greeting from Mayor Daley was read by the announcer at halftime. The cheerleaders performed and constructed human pyramids. Dancers saluted the 2010 football team. Each of the charter schools crowned their homecoming courts. And the players displayed teamwork and sportsmanship as they scored over 50 points in this exciting victory.

The students continued their celebration with a Homecoming Dance in the school cafeteria. The football players displayed their support of the Maroon & White by wearing and flagging the school colors while they danced, making this victory a Sweetest Day to remember.
