Marjorie Cobbs, director and founder of the Friends of Columbus Park Food Pantry, will keep watch of the weather concerning opening her pantry on Friday. Located at the Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson, it’s normally open Fridays from 9 to 11 in the morning, with clients served as early as 8. Cobbs, like many in Austin and the city, was snowed in her home Wednesday. But Cobbs, always thinking positive, said at least the snow will temporally keep the bad folks off the street.
“That’s Gods way of telling them to stay at home-no robbing, stealing or shooting,” she said.
Cobbs, 79, founded the Columbus Park food pantry 17 years ago and runs it with a volunteer staff of six to seven people. It’s one of many satellite sites of the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
