Chicago Police have arrested an Austin man for possessing about $100,000 worth of marijuana with intent to distribute in his Austin home.

The arrest occurred Tuesday, Aug. 16 at a residence in the 700 block of N. Laramie. 15th District officers searched Claude Washington’s home, and also found several weapons there, according to police. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with felony manufacture/delivery of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis.

Other charges include three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, three misdemeanor counts of possessing ammunition without valid firearm owner’s identification and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers arrived at the residence at around 12:30 a.m. early Tuesday after gathering information of suspected drug activity at the home. Officers reported finding large black garbage bags filled with sealed packs of marijuana, totaling 35 pounds.

Sarah Brown, 28, was also arrested at the Laramie residence, and charged with obstructing an officer. 

Washington was taken into custody at the residence and was scheduled in Central Bond court at 26th and California on Aug. 17. Brown is scheduled to appear in misdemeanor court at Grand and Central on Sept. 14.
