Obama wasn’t the only Chicago politician celebrating election victories Tuesday.
It was another win for longtime Democratic congressman Danny Davis, who won a ninth term in the U.S. House, defeating Republican challenger Rita Zak and Independent candidate John Monaghan. Davis won with over 80 percent of the vote in the 7th Congressional District race. Several West Side legislators in Tuesday’s election ran unopposed – state senators Kim Lightford (4th) and Don Harmon (39th), and state representatives LaShawn Ford (8th) and Camille Lilly (78th).
In other races, Maywood state rep Karen Yarbrough won the Cook County Recorder of Deeds race against Republican challenger Sherrie Griffith. Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown won reelection against GOP candidate Diane Shapiro.
