Walking the line: Austin school teachers were amongst those hitting the picket lines in September after their union leaders agreed to strike. The conflict lasted eight days. The union and Chicago Board of Education reached a deal on a new contract.

Rep. La Shawn Ford was indicted on Nov. 29 on federal bank fraud charges. Ford vehemently denies charges. He was arraigned on Dec. 11, pleading not guilty in the 17-court indictment. Ford has since received much community support, including residents, clergy and activists.
