11 Emmy Award Winning photographer and videographer, Dartise Johnson, joined forces with Anthony Sturdivant and Leon Kelsick to produce “Think Before You Shoot” a short anti violence film series that hopes to stop senseless killings in Chicago. Johnson captures heart stopping images of what could be traumatic consequences of young adults firing a gun without thinking first.
Think Before You Shoot 2, a short film with a power packed message, won the Silver Award for short films in the Prestige Film Festival. Johnson is passionate about this project, his goal is to reach the shooters, the people with the guns in their hands, to see this film and positively change their lifestyle.

People with guns kill people. Over 506 homicides documented in the city of Chicago in 2012 an 11% increase since 2011. In 2009, 66% of all homicides were perpetuated with guns. Our government spent over $680 billion on defense last year alone. Johnson utilizes his expertise in visual production to increase the awareness and cease the violence. He believes that a visual medium has a more powerful influence over our lives. Using his expertise in visual production as the power of influence, Dartise continues to grasp viewers’ attention.

Dartise Johnson as owner and production manager has spent the last 13 years in broadcast news. He began his career in studio production, but quickly channeled his talents to photojournalism, video editing, and photography. He has worked as a photojournalist for domestic news outlets in Georgia, North Carolina and Illinois (CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliates). Dartise has won 11 Emmys and several regional awards. He was part of the Fox Chicago News team that recently won a Peabody award for excellent news coverage.
