Jackie Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Jan. 24, 1962.
Robinson broke professional baseball’s color-barrier when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, the first black player for a major league team. He was named Rookie of the Year and later league MVP in 1949. Robinson, 53, died in 1972. His birthday is Jan. 31.
