Expect something wonderful all the time!
Sometimes, quite expectantly, you find yourself smack dab in the middle of something wonderful. That’s exactly what happened yesterday when I went to the downtown Harold Washington Chicago Public Library. Supreme Justice Sonia Sotomayor appeared in the 9th floor Winter Garden for a discussion of her new book of memoir entitled My Beloved World. In addition to actually meeting Justice Sotomayor, I had the pleasure of meeting a seven year old girl named Tabbie Major who, after returning library books, had pleaded with her mother to be allowed to stay and see Justice Sotomayor because of the love of reading they shared. After the event, I spent an absolutely enjoyable Green Line train ride back to Austin with Tabbie and her mother Tammie. To say it was a delightful experience is an understatement. This experience reminded me of one of my favorite sayings:
‘Good things happen all the time; sometimes we are just too focused on the negative to enjoy the good.’
Remember to smell the sweet fragrances of life. They will brighten your day like the infectious smile of Tabbie Major brightened mines.
