-Willy T. Ribbs, racecar driver. On May 19, 1971, Ribbs became the first black driver to qualify for the Indy 500. And in 1986, he became the first black person to drive a Formula One car. Though retired as a driver, Ribbs, 58, remains active in the sport as a racing team owner.
