Austin youth participated in Youth Democracy and Violence Prevention Day 2013 in Springfield on May 14. More than 500 “youth leaders” from around the state participated. Co-sponsored by Chicago Area Project — a youth nonprofit organization — participants learned about democracy and advocacy, as well as ways to make their communities safer. They also met with state lawmakers during the trip.
