Noted civil rights attorney Vernon Jordan was shot and seriously wounded by a would-be assassin in Ft. Wayne, Ind., on May 29, 1980. Jordan was president of the National Urban League at the time.
Joseph Paul Franklin, who was also implicated in the 1978 shooting of Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flint, confessed to shooting Jordan. After surviving the attack, Jordan continued in politics and remains active in public life.
