Medical bills can often wind up on your credit report without your knowledge. So what do you do when you find that they are on your credit report? Do some homework first.
1) Don’t pay them right away.
2) The collection agency can tell you where the bill is from, the patient that was seen and date of service
3) Check to see if insurance has been submitted first by contacting the facility directly where service was rendered. They can often prepare a statement for you.
If after you’ve done your homework and find out that the bill is owed, negotiate to see if once the bill is paid if it can be removed from your credit report.
