Four candidates are gearing up their campaigns to replace retiring Earlean Collins as 1st District Cook County commissioner.

Richard Boykin, who’s running for the Cook County Board, officially kicked-off his campaign on Jan. 12.

A partner with Barnes and Thornburg, LLP, Boykin previously served as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (7th) for nine years. He previously served as Davis’ legislative director.

“I’m extremely humbled by all those who have supported me through the launch of my campaign, and look forward to growing our partnership over the coming months with a key focus on improving and expanding services and resources for Cook County residents,” Boykin said in a press release from his office.

Other candidates running in the race are Austin resident and lawyer Blake Sercye, former 29th Ward alderman Isaac Carothers, and Brenda Smith, an Austin businesswomen and former aide to Carothers.

Boykin’s campaign headquarters is in Oak Park. Sercye hosted his campaign office opening on Jan. 18, at 1100 Lake Street in Oak Park.
