OAK PARK, Ill. (May 20, 2014) – Women getting a mammogram at the River Forest Breast Care Center on Wednesday, May 21, will get an experience like no other as the mammography center transforms into a mini-spa day for 12 hours. Draped with lavender curtains, featuring soft lighting and calming music, patients can enjoy cucumber water and light refreshments while they wait for a mammogram. Following the quick screening, women are offered 2 free-spa services to choose from – including manicures, mini-massages, shiatsu massage, infrared mat therapy, nutrition consultations, and facials.

“We started this event last year because women are often the caretakers in their households, but sometimes put their own health last,” says Mary Jo Tsoklas, Director of Outpatient Services, River Forest Breast Care Center. “We wanted to create an event for women to come in, get an important health screening, while also treating themselves to a mini-spa day.”

The Manicures & Mammograms event is offered twice a year. The event draws a high number of first-time mammography patients and has helped women to detect early instances of breast cancer. Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lives. Early detection is key to saving lives, by finding cancer early when it is most treatable. With the latest technology and digital mammography available, mammograms are quick and easy – the screening only takes a few seconds and it can be lifesaving. The American Cancer Society recommends screenings mammograms begin at age 40, and beginning as young as 35 for those with a family history of breast cancer.

The Breast Care Center, located at 420 William Street in River Forest, is a certified mammography facility by the American College of Radiology. The Center’s expert team of radiologists and mammography technologists is extensively trained in the latest breast imaging techniques to provide fast, reliable results to patients and doctors. The Breast Care Center offers all-digital mammography, screening and diagnostic mammograms, and biopsies. The Center also offers a Nurse Navigator to serve as the link between the patient and physician team, providing resources and coordination of care to breast cancer patients free of charge.
