The Illinois Chapter of Moms Demand Action will sponsor “Mother’s Dream” quilting event on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Purcell Hall, 4300 W. Washington Blvd. The quilt, dedicated to gun violence victims and survivors, will be displayed nationally writes Christine Fenno of the group’s Illinois Chapter in a news release.
“We especially want to welcome community members who have been adversely affected by gunfire recently or long ago — whether crime-related, suicide-related or accidental,” reads the news release. “These guests are invited to bring a meaningful fabric (pillowcase or shirt, for example) that we’ll incorporate into a beautiful piece of the quilt to honor someone special.”
No sewing or quilting experience is needed. Beginners will be paired with experienced stitchers. A light lunch will be provided.
Similar quilting “bees” are taking place across the country.
