Huey Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party in 1966. A native of Monroe La., Huey Percy Newton founded the BPP with Merritt College classmate Bobby Seale in Oakland. Newton, 47, died in 1989, the victim of a gun shooting in Oakland.
