Civil rights activists, author and historian W.E.B. Dubois, 95, died in Ghana on Aug. 27, 1963. Born William Edward Burghardt Dubois in Great Barrington, Mass., he’s known as the author of The Souls of Black Folk and publisher of The Crisis magazine. He’s also a founding member of the NAACP.
