“It’s interesting when you’ve been a partner with someone for so long. So now to sing solo and starting all over again, I am learning that I am more bodacious than I thought. I don’t know where it’s coming from but I am glad.”
Valerie Simpson, singer and songwriter who turned 68 on Aug. 26. Simpson and her husband, Nick Ashford, co-wrote several hit songs, including Motown classics “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” and “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing.” Ashford and Simpson also had their own hits, including “Solid.” Nick Ashford died on Aug. 22, 2011.
