A warehouse next to Harris Ice Delivery on the West Side was destroyed in a fire Sept. 25 following a propane tank explosion.
The warehouse, located at 3909 W. Harrison, went up in ablaze around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 25. Harris Ice House, owned by Mr. Walker Harris, is right next door to the warehouse and did not catch fire.
Harris does not own the building that caught fire, as originally thought, according to an employee of the ice house who confirmed that today. The longtime North Lawndale business has been open since the 1970s.
According to the employee, Harris Ice House is open for business.
A member of the Austin African-American Business Networking Association, Mr. Harris received the organization’s Businessman of the Year in December 2013 during their annual Kwanzaa celebration at Sankofa Cultural ArtsCenter, 5820 W. Chicago Ave.
No one was injured in last Thursday’s fire.
