Nate Clifton became one of the first black players to play an NBA game when he suited up for the New York Knicks on Oct. 22, 1950. The center/forward retired in 1962 and included stints with the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Majors (1961) of the former American Basketball League. Clifton, 67, died in 1990.
