As many of you know, I’ve been on a tangent of “Just How Dumb Do They Think We Are?” columns regarding politicians. After listening to President Obama’s speech on immigration, I am adding him to the list of those who try to do the “wootie-wootie,” as if we don’t see the wool being pulled over our eyes.
Obama started his speech by stating, “For more than 200 years, our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world has given us a tremendous advantage over other nations.” While his white ancestors weren’t enslaved 200 years ago, mine were. The only welcome mat to greet their arrival was “welcome to the auction block”!
When the framers of the Constitution established this country, they didn’t want a king as ruler. So they created a government where the Congress writes the laws, the President signs them into law (or vetoes them) and the Supreme Court enforces/interprets the law. Congressional members do not have a term limit. Supreme Court members are appointed for life. Only the president is restricted to two terms in office and for just reason. It is not the president’s job to tell Congress when, where, how, why or what it should be doing. If Congress writes a law, the president doesn’t agree with, he can veto their action. And if the president does veto it, Congress can still get the law into effect with a larger vote. Congress is supposed to represent the people, which is why the number of people in the House of Representatives is based on the census.
Obama spoke about families being torn apart. So I believe the first thing the new Congress should do when it comes to immigration is to clarify who gets to be a citizen of this country based on birth. The 14th amendment was added to ensure that the children of the former slaves were citizens of this country. No direct mention was made by Obama about the children whose illegal alien parents left them in their home countries while the parents came here. They are the hundreds of thousands of young people who somehow just happened to come across the border this past year in anticipation of Obama’s immigration actions. Anyone who believes otherwise also believes in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.
Can anyone tell me just how this country is going to do a criminal background check on the millions of folks here illegally? Will it be a local police check? Then an FBI check? Then an Interpol check, followed by a check within that person’s country of citizenship? Who is going to pay for that check? And how will those here illegally prove that they are the biological mother and father of the American-born children?
Just this past summer, the convicted criminal Elvira Arelleno, who once took refuge in a storefront church on Division Street, was allowed back into this country. That will let you know in advance just what a liar Obama is.
One of the most interesting things Obama said in his speech is: “Workers who pick our fruit and make our beds never have a chance to get right with the law” Who out there truly believes that the fruit-pickers are fixing to apply to pay federal, state and local taxes? We have Americans lamenting right now that they can’t make it on the minimum wage and now we’re to believe that illegal aliens who pick fruit are suddenly going to apply to pay taxes? Yeah … right … Hmm huh.
We have also been told that illegal aliens do the jobs Americans won’t do. As I watch young American girls work in nursing homes, how is it that being a maid in a hotel is a job that Americans don’t want to do? If you are a citizen working a job with Mary and she comes to work and says her real name is Sally and she has been hiding in the shadows for the past five years using Mary’s name and SSN, how many employers are going to keep Sally working for them? How many Americans have watched Shenaynay lose her job for lying because she needed to work and lied about her felony conviction, yet we’ll stand idly by when Sally confesses what she did?
Do you know why they claim that Obama has deported more people than any other president? It’s because folks caught crossing the border and repatriated to Mexico are now counted as deported.
Lastly, Obama said this: “I will make it easier and faster for high-skilled immigrants, graduates, and entrepreneurs to stay and contribute to our economy, as so many business leaders have proposed.” So while he may speak of those making the chump change, Obama is the puppet of the multinational corporations who would rather pay a foreign worker $25 an hour as opposed to paying an American Information Technology worker $50 an hour.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I feel the president’s size 10 shoe up my butt!
