Octavia V. Rogers Albert was born into slavery on this day in 1853 in Oglethorpe, Georgia. She would go on the write “The House of Bondage.” Compiled from interviews she did with former slaves, it is among the first slave narratives ever published. She is thought to have died sometime around 1890, shortly after her book was published.
