U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-7th) is expected to endorse Willie Wilson for Mayor of Chicago and Chris Taliaferro for 29th Ward alderman, according to a spokesperson with Citizens for Davis.
On Saturday, Jan. 30, Rep. Davis will make the announcement endorsing Wilson at the Greater St. John Bible Church, 1256 N. Waller.
He’ll be joined by Cook County Commissioner, 1st District Richard Boykin; former 29th Ward alderman Isaac “Ike” Carothers; former judge and state representative Anthony Young; former alderman Ed Smith; state representative Anazette Collins; and community clergy members.
Wilson has picked up significant African American support over the last few weeks, with prominent Austin pastors Ira Acree and Marshall Hatch endorsing Wilson on Jan. 16. The two pastors also endorsed 29th Ward candidate Chris Taliaferro, who has emerged as the main threat to incumbent alderman Deborah Graham’s reelection prospects.
Taliaferro was also endorsed by former 29th Ward aldermanic candidate Maurice J. Robinson. Rep. Davis will make his announcement endorsing Taliaferro at a press conference at 10 AM on Saturday, Jan. 30, at MacArthur’s Restaurant, 5412 W. Madison Street.
