According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, a fire broke out at the Jackson Square Center, located in the 5100 block of West Jackson Boulevard, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.
The blaze started after a 54-year-old man tried smoking a cigarette while hooked up to an oxygen machine, according to investigators. The man was rushed to Stroger Hospital and is in fair-to-serious condition.
That was the only reported injury.
