(CPS Office of Communications) Chicago Public Schools (CPS) [has] released a revised calendar for School Year 2014-2015 (SY 14-15), which includes rescheduled student attendance days to make up for the cancellations last month on February 2 and 19. In order to ensure that students do not miss any instruction days, class will be in session on Thursday, June 18, which was scheduled to be the first day of students’ summer break, and Friday, June 19.
“We highly value each day of classroom instruction that our students receive, which is why any missed days are rescheduled,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett. “The academic calendar has been updated to allow for students to receive the full education and development time that is needed to have a fully successful school year.”
Students’ summer break will begin after classes on Friday, June 19. This update to the academic calendar will not disrupt graduation schedules or the start of summer school.
CPS has rescheduled professional development dates to ensure teachers do not miss out on these valuable opportunities. June 22 will now be a principal-directed professional development day; June 23 will be a teacher-directed professional development day; and June 24 will be a principal-directed flex professional development day.
