Recently, the Chicago Sun-Times endorsed both incumbents in the 29th and 37th ward runoff races. The Chicago Tribune, however, recently decided that the wards currently represented by aldermen Deborah Graham (29th) and Emma Mitts (37th) would be better served by their challengers.

In the 29th Ward, the Tribune endorsed Chris Taliaferro, a Galewood attorney and police sergeant. The paper wrote that Taliaferro, a former Marine, “recognizes that residents’ mistrust of police is a major problem in this ward and offers to develop more community policing programs to bridge the divide.”

The editorial board also stated that Taliaferro “would push the city to rim more management positions.”

In the hotly contested 37th Ward race, the Tribune stuck with its endorsement of Tara Stamps over longtime incumbent Emma Mitts. The paper endorsed Stamps before the Feb. 24 contest as well.
