On April 29, 1899, Jazz composer Duke Ellington was born in Washington, D.C. Ellington is famous for tunes such as “Take the A Train” and “Sophisticated Ladies.” Ellington is widely considered one the most influential figures in Jazz. He died May 24, 1974.
