According to a July 23 Chicago Sun-Times report, Wisconsin authorities believe they have in custody the man responsible for the July 4 shooting death of 7-year-old Amari Brown. The shooting took place on the 100 block of North Harding in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The Douglas County sheriff’s office arrested 20-year-old Rasheed Martin on Wed. July 22 at an apartment complex in Wisconsin — some 460 miles away from Chicago — according to a statement released by Douglas County sheriff’s officials.
The Sun-Times notes that Martin was wanted in connection with the murder and that, as of today, he “was being held in the Douglas County jail pending extradition to Illinois.
Seven hospitalized after funeral procession crash
Seven people were hospitalized after an automobile accident involving a funeral procession in front of St. Martin de Porres, 5112 W. Washington Blvd., according to a July 23 Chicago Sun-Times report. The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m., public safety officials said. The Sun-Times wrote, according to “unconfirmed reports,” an elderly man crashed into the cars, “leaving at least one vehicle partially rolled over, and several others damaged.”
Robbers targeting online retail customers on West Side
According to a July 20 report by the Chicago Sun-Times, police are warning West Side residents to take precautions when using some websites such as Craigslist after three robberies were reported earlier this month.
“People answering online ads to buy electronics have been met by two women who then steal their property, according to a community alert from Chicago Police,” the Sun-Times notes.
“The first robbery happened about 6 p.m. on July 2 in the 5200 block of West Ohio. The others happened about 3:30 p.m. on July 6, and then about 6:45 p.m. on July 10. Both of these happened in the 5200 block of West Race, police said.”
Police currently don’t have any detailed descriptions of the suspects, but are urging anyone with information to call (312) 744-8263.
