Sen. Don Harmon and Rep. Camille Lilly during a town hall in 2013. File.

State Sen. Don Harmon (39th) and state Rep. Camille Lilly (78th) have been hosting joint town halls across the West Side of Chicago and west suburbs for years now. Today, Mon. July 27, that tradition continues with a joint town hall meeting at the Chicago Public Library, Austin Branch, 5615 W. Race Ave. The meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Attendees should anticipate a vigorous discussion on the state’s fiscal crisis. The General Assembly is nearly a month into the new fiscal year and still hasn’t authorized a budget to fund basic government operations. At issue, among a range of other problems, is how precisely the state will pay for its pension system, which is underfunded to the tune of at least $100 billion.
