CHICAGO – State Representative La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, congratulates the Moore Park Advisory Council on their fight to bring an addition to the Field House at Moore Park in South Austin, Chicago. “I am sorry I missed the opening, but this is a perfect collaboration between the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago,” said Ford.

The South Austin community has advocated for improvements in the facilities in the park for years: (http://www.austinweeklynews.com/News/Articles/5-5-2010/A-new-‘house’-for-Moore-Park/ and http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-06-04/news/ct-x-c-moore-park-field-house-20100604_1_west-sidemoore-park-field-house).

The $2,800,000 project was funded by $1,590,000 from the state and $1,120,000 from the city or other sources. Ford led the fight to secure funding from the state of Illinois. “The West Side can benefit from organized efforts to build up the community, just like this successful project,” said Ford. “We are continuing the fight to get the last $90,800 released to complete the state’s share of the project.”
