Youth Council and Community Annual Violence and substance prevention day

On Monday, October 5, 2015 the West Garfield Park Community Stakeholders, the West Garfield Park Youth Council, and other West Side partners hosted the 2nd Annual Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention Day from 5:30-8pm at the United For Better Living building, 4540 West Washington Boulevard in Chicago.
The goal of the event was to bridge the Intergenerational Gaps between young people, mental health, and mature adults. Guests could receive information from Resource Tables, enjoy refreshments, and make local connections. Attendees were invited to participate in discussions and share their ideas on how we can all work together to positively impact the community. At one point, the whole crowd stood up and pledged their commitment to help reduce violence and substance abuse on Chicago’s West Side.
Awards were given to the following for their Continued Support and Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse and Senseless Violence:

Lightford, Senator Don Harmon, Representative Pamela Reaves-Harris, Representative Camille Lilly, Clerk Dorothy Brown, President of Cook CommissionersToni Preckwinkle, Commissioner Robert Steele, Commissioner Richard Boykin, Alderman Jason Ervin, Alderman Chris Taliaferro, Alderman Emma Mitts, Judge Jackson. all West Garfield Park Community Stakeholders, received an award.  Speakers were given Stakeholder’s T-Shirts.
The West Garfield Park Community Stakeholders hosts Community Empowerment and Unification meetings on the 2nd Monday of each month, at 6:00 pm. SHARP at 4540 West Washington, Blvd. in Chicago.
